Mary O’Sullivan

BME Ph.D. Student

UVA Engineering School Distinguished Fellow (2023-2024)

Systems and Biomolecular Data Science Trainee (2024-2025)

Mary is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. She grew up in Colonial Beach, Virginia and graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 2023 with a major in Engineering and minors in Chemistry and Math.

Mary’s research focuses on cancer immunology. Specifically, she is looking at how immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapies may impact cell-cell crosstalk in the tumor microenvironment, which could help identify patient prognostics and suggest novel targets for supplementary immunotherapies.

Outside of the lab, Mary enjoys hiking and going to the Charlottesville farmers markets, as well as spending time with her friends and family.
